The low adoption fee is to encourage you to step up & take action! Time is of the essence. If you are interested, act now! Below is more info, please read EVERYTHING. Serious inquires only! We are only looking for a permanent home for this pet. We appreciate people wanting to help, but please do not apply with the intention of re-homing. NOTES FROM SAFE HAVEN ABOUT THIS DOG: Most pets on the euthanasia list are a project pet, and will need further training and/or socializing. Specific details outlined below. Safe Haven has not worked with this pet. Everything known about the pet is in this post. Keep in mind that long haired dogs need to be brushed at least twice a week. But wait until he gets used to you first... The fact that the shelter says he is showing signs of improvement is encouraging, and tells me that as long as someone is patient and goes slow with him, he should not be that hard to get to come around. The fact that he is treat motivated should make him easier to train & socialize. ***** NOTES FROM THE SHELTER ABOUT THIS DOG: Benji 4Y Male Aust Shepherd/Mix 25.52 lbs MEDICAL: Came in from filthy hoard like conditions and treated for ticks upon intake. Needs quick dental. BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Benji has been fearful upon intake in shelter. In just a short amount of time, he has warmed up and is very food motivated. He will allow petting and will take treats from hand. He can be timid at first but we believe he would warm up even more in a quieter environment where he can build his confidence with people and places. Benji allowed us to leash him but would not walk. Has a history of allowing to be carried. He has exhibited no aggressive behaviors in shelter. We believe dog has potential in a less-trafficked environment with patient and understanding. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Benji came to the shelter through a large scale hoarding intake. Behavior notes: (Please note that the shelter environment is scary & this pet may act different once out of the shelter) Benji: 07/18/19 15:33 AOverholt- Dog was laying on kuranda bed, stiff, and whale eyed when I approached. Dogs did not move when I entered but all stiffened more. Guillotine was closed so dogs were all inside. Dog took treats from the bed but would keep a side eye on me while eating. Dog eventually took treats out of my hand about 30% of the times I attempted. He sat up, still stiff but made softer eye contact and was more bright-eyed with ears up. Dog would not lure towards me but still took treats from my hand. I ran out of treats and came back later and dog was standing up in kennel when I approached. I crouched down in front of kennel and he began wagging his tail. All dogs including him took treats from the floor through the gate. Dogs all moved out of my way when I entered but did not leave to the outside portion even when the guillotine was open. Dog took treats out of my hand more consistently and allowed me to leash him with ease, only with some whale eye and stiffened body posture. I opened up the kennel to attempt to lead him out but he sat down and would not budge. I went back into the kennel with him and he crawled up onto the bed, closer to me and sat back down. He took treats again and softened. I took the leash off of him and he did not stiffen more or exhibit any aggression or excessively fearful behaviors. He allowed me to pet him on his muzzle, chest, top of head, and even his legs with only minor stiffening and whale eye. Dog did growl at kennel mates as if guarding food while eating treats. PLAN: work on getting dog out of kennel to evaluate further, may need social dog to encourage him. ***** Adoption fee (from Safe Haven) is only $55 & includes: - Initial Vet check (if pet will allow) - Spay/Neuter surgery - Up to date on Vaccinations - Microchip - Voucher for a future Free office visit to the Vet - 50% off any Optimum Wellness Plan - 30 days of free pet insurance (in case something comes up after adoption) - Available Paperwork: Spay/Neuter records, Vaccination records, Vet records, Microchip records, Recommendation list, etc... - Continued Support: Safe Haven will be there for the lifetime of your adopted pet. HOW SAFE HAVENS E-LIST ADOPTION PROGRAM WORKS: - This pet has NOT been saved & is in danger of being euthanized at the shelter. - The shelter will not allow me to have potential adopters come down & view the pets. This pet is in an area only accessible to rescue groups. - You must be 100% SURE you want to adopt this pet & commit to adopting without meeting them first (I know, scary, but keep reading it gets better...). -
