[Read About Natural Incontinence Care] am trying to find a home for a disabled Daschund. She has a number of health issues, and sadly, our landlord will not allow us to keep her. Her name is Weiner the Pooh aka 'Winnie.' She was found 2 years ago wandering on Christmas Eve. Flyers were put out and vets contacted but no one ever claimed her. She was limping and clearly had some back issues. Once we got her into a vet's care, we discovered that she was not spayed and was probably 2 years old or so. She seemed familiar with crates, but was clearly not house- trained. After about 4 months, she became severely ill with hemhorragic gastroenteritis and required hospitalization. It was touch and go but she eventually recovered. She did well for about a year. One month before her scheduled spaying, she started limping again. As we were driving her to the hospital, she began evidencing extreme pain. She had slipped a disk in her back. The surgeon first gave us pretty good odds, so we approved the operation. Afterward, it became clear that she was paralyzed. We have been working with her to try and regain some function. She has reflexes in both back legs and tail, but no voluntary control. She also has no awareness of her bladder or bowels. Although she is able to have a bowel movement, her bladder has to be manually expressed several times daily. She takes two medications to make this easier. She gets around by hopping and does well with it. We think she would do very well with a wheel cart for her back legs, and might recover some function with hydrotherapy. We do 'home-grown' hydrotherapy with a swim vest and a bath tub and that has shown some results, although not a lot. We are no longer able to keep her though. My youngest child is about to go to college and will not be able to assist, and I am unable to carry her due to my own. Our landlord has warned us that she may not be allowed to stay with us. I am hoping that you might have access or know some loving caring Daschund people who might love her as we do, and have the capacity to care for her. I am requesting that a fee be donated to Rescue Me
