About Kirby

Kirby is a 12 pound, 2 �%BD year old Shih Tzu. He has a sweet disposition and does great with other dogs his size. Kirby is a curious, outgoing little guy and loves to play with toys. He loves everyone but because he is a tiny guy and children in his home should be over 10. Kirby does well in the car and at the groomers. He is very gentle and sweet with people. Kirby likes to sit on laps and be near his people. At night Kirby will sleep in a dog bed or in bed with his people. Kirby was adopted from a high kill Texas shelter as a puppy and was returned a year later in sad shape. His dew claws were curled in a circle and his nails were growing into his paw pads. Kirby was so matted he had to be shaved to the skin, on top of that he tested positive for heartworm. He didn't have a chance in Texas. Kirby came to Iowa with volunteer pilots with a program called Pilots N Paws. Kirby does not like to be crated and needs a home where someone is around much of the time. He can't go a full work day without getting outside to go potty. Kirby has been thru heartworm treatment following the American Heartworm Society's protocol and is all ready to find his forever home.
