About Bruce

Bruce arrived at Kauai Humane Society on March 27th (they named him Tango) and was released to Kauai SPCA on April 6th (they renamed him Bruce). He had demodectic mange and Kauai SPCA has treated him. It is now all cleared up and he is in good health (neutered and dewormed). He's about 5 1/2 years old and weighs 52lbs. He does have a mark around his neck from when he had his original embedded collar. Bruce doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body. He's good with older kids (younger ones may be a little too much energy for him) and prefers calm environment. He seems to have zero interest in cats. Housebroken and good in his crate, he hasn't exhibited any prey drive or resource guarding and is fine with small dogs. Kauai SPCA would recommend him for a family with another dog because another dog brings out his personalty and confident side. He jumps around and is a good player with other dogs, he would truly love another dog who loves to play. He would do great in a home with a fenced yard as well. He can be shy and is a dog that will retreat/hide at loud noises like gates slamming. However, he is doing better with retreating behaviors and Melanie from Kauai SPCA has started doing exposure therapy by walking him on the busy bike/walking path. While he does get nervous and want to retreat, she makes him work through it with treats and praise 'after survival' of the first few scary cars. He's doing great! He gets so excited at feeding time and is very food motivated. He literally springs off the ground! He's seen the light that not all humans are going to treat him badly. He's a big couch potato. He loves to sleep but loves to play too! Kspca will pay transport costs to West Coast
