About Callie

Lab mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Introducing Callie, a spayed female that is chipped, housebroken and up to date on her vaccinations and HW meds. She will be turning two this October. Callie is a smart trainable girl, the commands she currently responds to are sit, lay down, go nite nite, and no. She sleeps on a pet bed but has been crated in the past. Callie was adopted as a puppy from a rescue situation. Her mother was with Huntsville Animal Services and in a foster home to keep the puppies healthy. Her owner, Christina, was very excited to introduce her to their little family of 4, five if you include their now 11 yr old Golden! Now for the hard stuff. Callie grew through the puppy phases but always presented with anxiety, a skiddishness of sorts. She has not taken well to the children having friends around and has grown more and more agitated toward the senior Golden. The owners are very family oriented, with children always being in and around their home (including several at once since their elementary aged children are in sports). Callie has the freedom of being an inside/outside girl but the logistics of keeping her away from visitors, and monitored around their Golden, has taken a toll on all of them and hasn't produced the best outcome with her. Callie's skiddishness (fear/anxiety) has been accepted for what it is and they have come to realize that she is better suited for a home that does NOT have young children, babies, or lots of people in/out. This is not a decision that was made in haste or taken lightly, please know that. They are also trying desperately to avoid placing her with a shelter as they know how it will impact the anxiety she has and in turn not being very approachable for those coming to select their next family member. The family is experiencing many life changes and Callie will now be moving with them to a temporary home while they wait to move to a new permanent residence (rehoming is NOT due to this move; however, their new place is perfect for kids...which means there are LOTS of kids running around the neighborhood). Back to some good things! Callie enjoys the companionship of the male dog next door and has socialized with him without any problem. He is around her age and likes to run and play as well. When not sharing a space to play, they can be found running up and down the fence line together. Which makes me think that she would enjoy the companionship of a dog about her size that has some energy to burn! For quick reference so you don't have to backtrack... Age- 2 this October Spayed and chipped UTD on shots/HW/flea meds (Bryan Animal Clinic, Decatur) No introduction to cats or small animals made Best suited for a home without children or large gatherings (older teens okay) Commands- no, go nite-nite, lay down, sit Housebroken, currently is inside/outside Sleeps on a pet bed vs crate My personal experience with Callie was short but she allowed me to pet her head. Callie was very apprehensive about approaching me and placed herself between me and the kids, and then later did the same when I was standing with her owner. She is definitely very skiddish, just as I've relayed from her owner. I noticed that she really seemed to be watching their daughter and was later told that this is the child that plays more with Callie. My later experience was calling for her to come home when I noticed that she slipped out while the owners were loading a truck. She immediately responded and started running home, watching me closely and barking as she returned. I feel that this girly has lots of potential!
