About URGENT - NORMA

EXTREMELY URGENT - 48HR notice given today 7/12. Our Beautiful Friend Norma is on round 2 of antibiotics for a URI and not doing well. We LOVE this Sweet & Soulful Beauty!! Too many of our dogs are getting sick in the crowded shelter. A5288636 Norma is an endearing 3-year-old caramel-and-white female Pit Bull with maybe a splash of Hound who came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center as a stray on June 10th. Weighing 55 lbs, Norma is a sensitive soul who is understandably overwhelmed in the shelter environment. She gets scared by all of the dogs barking when she comes out of her kennel and has a tendency to 'pancake,' or hit the ground in fear. But she lets staff and volunteers carry her, and once she is away from the noise in the social areas, she seeks out attention from humans and reciprocates with gentle kisses. Norma is eager to connect with people, and we can see already how much she has come out of her shell in the time she has been in the shelter--and she greets the staff and volunteers she knows with a wagging tail. Norma knows how to walk on a leash, and will benefit from some basic obedience work, which will also help her be more confident. She is completely tolerant of other dogs in the shelter playgroup, but also a little scared of them so far; erring on the side of caution, the shelter is recommending Norma be an only dog in her new home until her family gets to know her. We suspect she will quite enjoy the company of other dogs once not stressed in the shelter. Norma will thrive in a household that appreciates a more shy dog and which will give her the opportunity to decompress from the shelter and, if necessary, engage in exercises to help her build her confidence. Norma will be a devoted and rewarding best friend in a loving household eager to earn her trust.
