JOSIE (Tri-colored Rat Terrier) - WE NEED A SPONSOR!!! AVAILABLE!!! Only $65 adoption!!! We just rescued this sweetheart from the euthanasia list. New pictures & a more detailed adoption profile will be posted in the future as we get to know this pet if it is not adopted beforehand. Additional notes: - She looks to be a purebred Rat Terrier. - This little one came from the recent case on the news for the 35+ Chihuahuas found abandoned by evicted tenant in east Phoenix. Here is a link to see the story: https://www.azfamily.com/'|/article_14325912-8e34-11e9-a4c2-'| - Fearful, & needs to be worked with. If you are wanting to adopt a pet that is fearful, you will need to crate this pet in an active room in your home so that this pet can watch you & your other animals & see that you will not hurt him/her. You will need to just lay newspaper down & just clean out the crate until they get used to you & learn to trust you. Otherwise this pet will run & hide from you because his/her experience with people so far is that people are a source of pain. If you are expecting to just come in & show this pet some love & it will come right around, then you are not understanding the level of fear. All pets come around in their own time. Some just take weeks, others take months...If you are interested in this pet, you need to be prepared to be committed to helping this pet no matter how long it takes. Fear Level: Medium - Josie has made some progress in the short time she has been here. The first day she stayed in the back of the crate and shook. By the next day, she would take thrown treats, but wouldn't let me touch her. Then after awhile, she started to show interest in me and sniffed my hand when cleaning out the crate. She will now take treats from my hand, and even step out of the crate to get it. I have not worked with her much farther. I have 5 project dogs that I am working with, and my time is spread thin. She would do better, and progress faster, with someone who has more time to spend one on one time with her. She is very sweet. - I post updates on the pets in the comment section on each pets post in our Facebook group. To see his/her progress, go to: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1405138936478168/Birthday: Weight: 10 lbs. PLEASE NOTE: All of the pets at Safe Haven receive basic training when they come to us. Adopters will be given a list of words that your new pet knows at the time of adoption. What each pet learns depends on how much time I have had to work with them, & if that pet has any additional issues that need to be focused on first. If you are interested in adopting this pet, please fill out an application http://www.adoptapet.com/Safe-Haven/adoption-application/ After we receive your application, we will contact you. ADOPTING A CAT OR DOG IS UP TO A 20 YEAR COMMITMENT! THEY ARE NOT OBJECTS THAT YOU CAN GET RID OF WHEN THEY BECOME INCONVENIENT. THEY ARE INNOCENT LIVING, BREATHING ANIMALS WITH FEELINGS THAT DEPEND ON YOU TO TAKE CARE OF THEM. IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO TAKE CARE OF, LOVE, & PAY FOR EVERYTHING THIS PET NEEDS FOR UP TO 20 YEARS, THEN PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR AN APPLICATION. * Safe Haven STRONGLY believes that collars should only be used to hold their ID or as decoration. A dog can slip out of collar. Which becomes a problem if you are trying to restrain your dog, & it comes off. Also, attaching a leash to a collar puts pressure on the neck, which is one of the most delicate areas of the body, & could hurt them. For these reasons, Safe Haven includes a harness with every dog adoption to ensure the safety of the dog. A harness distributes the weight on the chest & shoulders. It also has a handle on the back that you can grab if need be, without hurting your pet (EX: Dog falls off your boat, just grab the handle & pull your pet back in with no harm done. With a collar, you would have to strangle your dog when pulling your dog in). Also a dog cannot slip out of a harness if it is fitted correctly, so it is much easier to restrain them. ******* FROM THE SHELTER: Josie Female Chihuahua/Sh MEDICAL: Josie appears healthy at this time.
