Adoption Fee: $299
Australian Terrier
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Name: Adair - In Foster in Rocky Mount, NC Sex: Female Spayed/Neutered: Yes Breed: Australian Terrier / Mixed (short coat) Weight: 12.1 lbs Height: 11 in Estimated Birthdate: 3/27/2011 Fence Needed: No Location: Foster Home in Rocky Mount, NC Adoption Fee:$299 Date into Rescue: 04/03/2019 Reason for being in rescue: Adair's owners moved and left her at home. Thankfully caring neighbors heard her barks and called animal control. CPR pulled her from the shelter where she landed. A few weeks later, a friend of the family reached out and thanked us for pulling Adair. They told us her name is Jazzie Marie. The friend did not have an explanation as to why the family moved and did not take Jazzie but did tell me she has had one litter of puppies. Special Needs: None noted What kind of home would be best for me: An experienced home, a quiet home perhaps as an only dog and someone to be gentle and patient and give this girl space and time and lots of love. What is my personality like: Adair has two sides to her. When she is in a crate and with the other dogs, she is tense and unhappy. It is best not to reach in and get her out. Simply give her space and time and she will come to you. She is nervous and outside she is very aware and I would say hypersensitive to everything around her that she is not used to. How do I act when I first meet new people: She enjoyed going for her walk, but would get nervous every time there was a lot of noise or people walking by. She does scream sometimes when going to pet her or pick her up out of nervousness is my best guess. She came into my office with no problem at all. She loves cats, absolutely crazy about them but I think most of that is her curiosity. She was annoying to Little Nicky (a kitten) by sniffing him and not giving him space. Inside of my office I saw a totally different dog! She is playful, energetic, happy and sweet when you get her away from all of the commotion. Adair loves tennis balls, she will play fetch with you until you get tired of throwing the ball. It does not matter where that ball lands she is going to try her best to get it and be very quick with doing so! However giving it back is another story - she doesn't like to give it back and you have to tell her to drop it. I could not get her to eat a treat, she completely turned her nose up at the hard treats I have, and with the soft milk bones she would take out of my hand and put them on the floor. Adair isn't going to immediately run and jump in your lap. You need to give her time to come to you. She is nervous when you do go to pick her up but once she is in your lap for a few minutes she is licking you or laying down next you. She does not like for anyone to stand over her, she will retreat back to a hiding space if you do. I couldn't get her to sit, when asked she would just walk away and go under the desk. This girl would benefit greatly form socializing and a confidence boost. She needs a ton of patience. Lots. With us she has been a lot of fun. Tips and Tidbits: Estimated Birthdate: 3/27/2011. Adair is not a fan of crates and will bark and growl. Given her history, we cannot blame her! House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
