About Nina

Adoption Fee: $200
Siberian Husky mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only. Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. On 6/20 we found a stray, female, 1-yr. old, b/w, medium-sized husky dog at Maple Leaf Park in NE Seattle. Many neighbors helped us get Nina (as we've named her) on a leash and into our home for safe-keeping. Each of the 3 times Nina has escaped (jumped multiple fences- 1 5 ft. high, and opened/jumped through a window), our fantastic neighbors helped retrieve her. She is not chipped and came with a harness but no collar or ID. We've informed multiple shelters, hung posters and let vets and pet stores know. Nobody has come forward. In the meantime, Nina and our teen neighbor formed a tight bond. Our neighbor walks Nina everyday and takes her for dog play dates. But our neighbor can't keep Nina, and neither can we, due to health issues. The health issues got worse yesterday, so we've had to have the teen take Nina for the night, and Nina can't return to our home. Super sad, and we love her, but it can't work. We have a foster spot for her until Sunday, and then may need to take her to a shelter if it doesn't work to connect her with a rescue org. Nina was very, very skiddish at first, and is still skiddish- mostly of men. We suspect she was abused, due to how cowarding she gets and how much she fears and runs from people. She has alot of anxiety. Now that we have earned her trust, she loves kisses and snuggles and will lie down to help you get her harness on for a walk. She loves to play (typical husky style) with other dogs and is good with small kids. She's almost house-trained and has been taught to sit. We're working on 'leave it', but for now, she loves to chew stuff up. Anything. She is super smart, very kind, and extremely athletic. She can scale over our couch like a gazelle, and easily jumps 5-foot fences. She loves to run, walk, and play. Her health seemed good at first (except she's too skinny), but she swallowed a foreign object and has been coughing. The vet took an xray and said they thought she would pass it b/c it was low in the tract. Not sure if she has passed it, or not. Still has the cough, but it's better. Unsure of her stools, at this point. Nina is a super special dog, who I would love see go to a home in or close to Seattle. The main thing is to connect her with people who will be kind, restore her faith in people, and keep her safe. Thanks, Michelle Merkle [email protected] C 206.437.0427
