About Pepe

Alaskan Malamute / Siberian Husky
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Please help us find this adorable Alaskan Husky a furever home. Two year old Pepe has yet to find his home, due to his possession aggression. With the correct training he would be the perfect dog. He is the sweetest loving happy boy, wanting to hug and give kisses when they are being accepted. His current owner does not have the resources to give him the adequate training but has started the process. He is very willing to stop possessing something when given a more 'valuable' option (car ride, run, special treat, etc.). When possessing a toy he will sit, drop it, pick the toy up after saying 'can I have it' with a 'special treat' in hand (he loves little pieces of cheese or hot dog), giving him the treat and then the toy back. He has no issues besides the possession aggression, he's great on and off leash, not pulling when he is on leash. He loves his toys, especially his rope. He can respect if he isn't allowed on furniture but would love nothing more than to be allowed up with you so he can cuddle with you. Pepe knows basic commands and is great with other dogs. He would do best in a home without cats. He doesn't love being touched too much around the mouth but that seems to be his only dislike. His owner has tried giving him back to the shelter she got him from a couple weeks back due to a bite but the shelter has made it clear they don't intend on putting him back up for adoption and would instead euthanize. The owner is willing to foster Pepe while they find him his home. The bite that Pepe gave was in the morning when the owner was trying to grab his empty food dish. He was sitting ~2 feet away and after asking 'can I have it?' and then proceeding to reach and take it. Pepe felt as though it wasn't okay. Since the bite the owner has felt a little nervous and hasn't found a local trainer with he availability to help begin training immediately. Since the bite Pepe has begun being told to sit ~6 feet away with the added command 'watch me' which is done the entire time having him watch the taking, filling and setting down of his dish. He will offer his paw if asked before allowing him to get up and go to the food. Pepe is a fantastic dog, he just needs some training. He's currently in Maine (Sagadahoc County), if it means going a little further away from his current location travel can be discussed.
