About Puppy Mill Coolio

Pomeranian mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Hey there! I am cool Coolio! I am a 6 year old male, pocket size Pomeranian mix, I weigh about 10lbs. I'm a puppy mill survivor. Because of this, I am VERY shy. I've never lived in a house before, I really like it and I'm trying to learn how to be a 'house dog' but it's a SLOW process. Here's what my Foster Mom can tell you about me: - Coolio is not house trained, but is learning how to potty outside. after living in a cage all his life he probably never had the chance. - A Leash and harness hooked to a collar are used when we take Coolio out of our yard, in our yard he is happy running around, tho he always has an eye on us or his foster brother, It seems running outside is a new experience for him. - Steps seem to be a challenge as he's likely never seen them before. - Loud sounds or quick movements scare Coolio and he tries to get get away quickly. - Coolio would probably DO BEST living with a confident dog, this could help him see that the world is not scary. Coolio currently has a 16lbs foster brother, but no other pets are in the house. - He knows his name and comes when called, but will not get very close. - Coolio enjoys being spoken to, and will now make eye contact. - Coolio doesn't play w/toys or chew chewy toys as he likely has never been allowed them before. - Coolio now loves getting treats and seems food motivated. - He lets us pick him up but only when we corner him, Coolio is starting to like being held and having attention paid to him once he's in our arms. - Coolio will exit his crate when I open the door, he is learned to exit without my help. - He has not tried to bite or snap at us, he just cowers when we get near him. - Coolio barks when he doesn't see us while he's in the kitchen or in his crate... he loves to bark!! - He only eats in his crate, this is his choice, his crate seems to be his safe place. Coolio would love a family where his people are home most of the day, even tho he feels safe in his crate, he likes having people around to stop by his crate and talk to him. Coolio needs to be adopted into a home where his people will take the time to give him space, and be patient with him. Coolio does not understand anything about being a dog. Coolio was a puppy mill dog, he was used for breeding Poms and has paid the price emotionally. Coolio is not a purse/dog stroller type of dog.... yet... but I'm working on it! Coolio has lot's of love to give, he just needs patience while he figures out life beyond the crate.
