Name: Gertie Sex: Female Spayed/Neutered: Yes Breed: Hound (short coat) Weight: lb Height: in Estimated Birthdate: 5/14/2017 Fence Needed: Yes, she loves to romp and play in the yard and would miss that! Location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Adoption Fee:$200 Date into Rescue: 5/14/2019 Reason for being in rescue: Found as a s stray in SC and had been hit by a vehicle. Special Needs: Gertie was hit by a car in front of one of our staff. She spent time at the vet and walked out apparently whole and healthy. The vet said she is one lucky girl. What kind of home would be best for me: Gertie is looking for a home that will provide her with walks around the neighborhood, hikes, and then snuggles on the couch after! She would do well with another canine sibling, but would also be happy as an only child. What is my personality like: At first glance, Gertie may seem cold, distant, and not affectionate. Don't let first impressions fool you! She is just a busy body and is focused on her friends in the field. Once she is done exploring, she is very sweet, loves affection, and will even give you kisses! Gertie does fine - with lots of things. She does fine with bathing, she knows how to sit, and she is HIGHLY treat motivated. She does great with cats and other dogs. She did well in the car considering she was hit by one. She did want to be nosey and move around a lot though. One of our caregivers noted that she needs leash work, but on a recent outing she did pretty good. We even went to the lake. She wanted to get in the lake and catch all of the sticks. She loooooves to play fetch and it seems that she knows what 'drop it' means. I think she would love to have another dog in the home, she will miss her BFF Maggie. She is VERY curious, she has to stick her nose in everything she sees and check it out. She is pretty level headed from what I have seen. She adores running through the fields with her pals but also loves to take a few minutes to chill with her humans  How do I act when I first meet new people: Miss Gertie loves everyone. Tips and Tidbits: We think Gertie is about 2 years old. Because she was a stray, we are guessing that but she acts like a very young adult dog and her teeth say the same. House trained: Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
