About Leaf-ADOPTION PENDING

Schnauzer / Cairn
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Male

There's nothing quite like puppy energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter! Leaf, at just 8 weeks old and 2 lbs (estimated to be full grown at about 12 - 15 lbs), was facing the end of his life before it ever began. Farfel's Texas rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this puppy with a great temperament..they rescued Leaf from euthanasia for space just in time. Leaf is starting out with great energy...the excellent results of his temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life. He's also incredibly beautiful...with a gorgeous chestnut-colored coat with markings of black and chocolate. Leaf is appropriately playful and inquisitive for his young age. He's so smart and engaging with the most lovable personality...very typical of the cross of a Schnauzer and Cairn Terrier. Leaf is bright, happy-go-lucky and so loving...clearly having no memory of his scary start and just happy to be alive, loved and having so much fun. Since Leaf is just a baby, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion - Leaf will form firm bonds with his family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through Puppy Kindergarten followed by positive reinforcement group Obedience Classes. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that is extremely bonded and can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. Farfel's feels very strongly about this early training and will therefore not consider adopting to a family that chooses not to participate. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/force free trainers in your area. We're open to Leaf finding his forever home with a retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart puppy. Leaf loves children as well...we would prefer to place him in a home with older kids that can participate in play and fun with kindness. Kids can also be a part of a training regimen that's so important in the formation of a puppy's future behavior. Leaf's parents are a Mini Schnauzer and a Cairn Terrier..both have non-shedding coats. We believe that Leaf will as well but it's too early to know for certain. He will require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and excellent nutrition (a salmon oil supplement is an excellent daily supplement for coat care as well as longevity of life). With this regimen, Leaf's hair will be shining, cottony-soft and very healthy. Leaf will be up to date on his vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy and well-balanced puppies. Leaf is too young to be neutered prior to his transport to Colorado, however when a bit older, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Leaf's neuter and microchip if one of our rescue vets is used. Leaf will be arriving of transport in Denver in mid to late July. We're currently searching for a very loving and committed family for our wonderful puppy. Applications are being accepted for this adorable and loyal best friend..they can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** Farfel's Rescue makes huge efforts to place our dogs with families that are excellent matches. We do this through our 6-page Farfel's application found on farfels.com (never through rescue site apps as they don't provide enough information) followed by follow-up phone interviews, home photos and reference checks. If you're truly interested in adopting Leaf, please be sure to fill out the Farfel's adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving puppy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit a Farfel's application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
