About URGENT - WHITEY

Pit Bull
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

EXTREMELY URGENT - WHITEY HAS PAST THE 72HR NOTICE GIVEN ON 7/22. A5262674 Whitey is available to Los Angeles County approved Adoption Partners only with indemnity waiver required, because a volunteer mishandled him and he bit her but it wasn't serious. Whitey is a handsome 3-year-old neutered male Pit Bull who came to the Baldwin Animal Care Center as a stray on March 16th. It took two strong volunteers to leash Whitey up and take him out, not because he's aggressive (he's not) but because he wasn't sure where the walk would take him. Whitey had seen other dogs leave their kennels and never return, and he wasn't sure whether that was good or bad. (Yes. They know.) We figured since Whitey was aloof he'd just pee and sniff around in the play yard, pretty much ignoring us humans. Then this happened. WATCH THE VIDEO! This loveable boy had been waiting to experience joy, and he did! Whitey jumped around until he was airborne. He did the roly-polies. He nudged us to chase him. He fetched the toy bone. And he played 'flip the water bowl,' as if we all knew that game! This boy surprised us. He delighted us. And he broke our hearts. He'd had a joyful spirit in him the entire time-it had never materialized before that day. That day might have been the best day of Whitey's life. But we sure hope not. Maybe you can't adopt or foster him. But maybe you can? Under all that fear and uncertainty, there's a wonderful companion dog who's willing to WORK, and wants to trust someone again. Whitey needs a strong owner who can give him a routine, exercise with him, and occasionally let him knock around his water bowl! Photo/video courtesy of Outta the Cage Assessment notes: Whitey A5262674 approached the runner with soft eyes, a relaxed body and a neutral tail wag. He was easy to remove and strongly pulled on leash. When he was introduced to the other dogs at the fence he was tense, his eyes were alert and his tail wagged high. He entered the yard on a muzzle for the safety of the other dogs. He approached Rocky tensed up a little, Rocky over corrected him by growling and jumping and Whitey was a little tense but did not engage. Rocky was very easily corrected by the handlers and Whitey went on to explore. He then approached Mrs. Brisby, he curiously sniffed her and followed her around. His muzzle was removed after a few minutes. He then approached Mrs. Brisby attempted to mount her got corrected by her and sort of played with her. He followed her around was vocal at times but steerable. Rocky and him played for a brief second as well. He was a little assertive.
