About Kai

Kai is being fostered in Maryland. We are looking to place him within a 4 hour radius of Washington, DC but will consider other areas if we can accomplish a home visit. His vaccines were just updated (June 2019), he is micro-chipped, neutered, and heart worm negative. Kai is picky about his doggie friends so he'd be better as an 'only' dog BUT he could go to a home with another dog if it is the right fit. He tends to do better with female dogs, and with dogs that are submissive or neutral. Kai does have some resource guarding with high value treats (bones, bully sticks) when there are other dogs around. Has been around children as young as 1 year old but he can be mouthy so it would be best if children are at least 6 years old. That includes children in the home or children that come to visit. Kai will bond with his 'favorite'person. In his current home, that is with the adult male. He will be quite cuddly and will want to be close to his person. Kai needs to go to a stand-alone home. He will bark and does get over-stimulated with too much action or activity. He would not be a good fit for anyone that lives in an apartment or a shared wall dwelling (he'd drive your neighbors crazy). A home should either have a 6 foot fenced back yard or adopters should be prepared to keep him on a leash or tether (supervised) when he is outside. He is not great with all dogs and if a stray or random dog comes into the yard and he is not within an enclosed space, he may react to the other dog in a negative way. Kai is high energy and requires a couple of good, long walk/runs daily. He is currently getting 4 to 6 miles a day. Kai has been fostered with cats before. Current foster home does not have cats. Fully house-broken and doesn't chew on inappropriate things.
