About Whitey

Adoption Fee: $350.00
Chihuahua / Fox Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Darling Whitey is a shy boy, who needs a quiet household and patient adopters to help him blossom. He came to us recently from NYC ACC, after his owners dropped him off. He seemed to have a hard time adapting to shelter life, after living in his own home since he was a puppy. Shelter staff released him to our care, so that we could give him time and TLC to relax. It's not uncommon for Rescue dogs to become nervous and fearful in the shelter, and that was certainly the case with Whitey. As soon as he exited the premises, he seemed to relax and now has been with us for a few weeks. He's seems very submissive and shy at first meeting, and will take a few minutes to warm up to strangers. Once he bonds with his people, Whitey is an absolute love, and the consummate lap dog. Whitey is a handsome fellow. He is a tiny dog weighing only 7 pounds, with extremely petite features. His breed origins seem rooted in the Chihuahua, and his short, flat coat is biscuit-cream colored. Atop this pixie frame sits an atypical triangular shaped Chihuahua head, with an elongated pointed muzzle, and broad skull. Whitey's demeanor is very demure, and mild mannered. He would be a superb choice for an adult single or couple, who have some understanding of rescue dog challenges. We think that he would do best in a laid back home, perhap with one or two low to medium energy dogs or cats. Whitey loves gentle attention, and could join a subdued family with adult children, but the bustling activity of an active family with toddlers would blow his tiny mind! Whitey has not had much obedience training, but is an attentive little boy, who responds well to postitive rewards based obedience and leadership training. He has been an extremely well-behaved houseguest, and has good overall house manners. Whitey will need some ongoing tweaking in his potty habits: his former owners confused him by going back and forth between outside and paper training. He is crate trained, but adopters should expect to forgive some initial accidents as he adjusts to his new potty routine. He will definitely need a hearty winter outfit to brave the elements for his daily constitutionals. Whitey appears to be well cared for, his skin and coat are soft and lustrous, and his teeth and gums are in good shape. Whitey is in excellent health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus) and Bordatella. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis, and he has been dewormed.
