About Panda

Adoption Fee: $300
Pomeranian mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

This pretty boy is Panda! He is a 2 year old Pomeranian mix who weighs about 13 pounds. He was surrendered to the Santa Rosa Shelter by his owner after they got a puppy and didn't want him anymore. We couldn't wait to bring him into our care to show him some love and affection. He is fearful of new people at first but with a little bit of time and patience he has settled very quickly with his foster parents and their pack. He was very well behaved when he was groomed and bathed recently but he is still afraid of a lot of things, maybe because everything he knew so far in his life has changed and he is taking a while to adjust. He doesn't like being picked up unless it is his idea and he comes to you to ask. Some dogs need time to settle and find their own space before they are ready to be picked up and hugged or petted. If you are the kind of person that wants your dog to be affectionate from day one and wants to pick him up and love on him all the time, Panda is not the dog for you. He will snap at you if you try to force your attention on him before he is ready and, just because of that unpredictability, he cannot be in a home with kids. He was recently adopted but never settled in his new home so was returned to us. So far we have discovered he is afraid of stairs and he doesn't like being outside on his own. He is housetrained, in the sense that he will use a training pad when inside the house, but he will do his business outside, he'd just rather you go out there with him at the moment. This may be because he was abandoned before and now, he doesn't want to go outside on his own in case there's nobody there again when he comes back in. He's afraid of the pet door and isn't comfortable using it yet, though we are encouraging him to keep trying. Panda likes to sleep with his foster parents at night but also does not mind sleeping by himself, as long as he is in the same room and he can see they are there. He gets along well with all the other pups in the house. Whoever adopts this sweet baby will be one lucky family. Yes, he is still scared and sad but he is getting better every day and is feeling more and more safe as time goes by. He is just the sweetest little guy and deserves to have a loving home of his own.
