About Pixie Bella

Guess who's ready for adoption?? Sweet little Pixie Bella! She is a 5 year old Chihuahua who currently weighs in at 2.80 pounds. Pixie Bella came to us from a horrible situation about 6 months ago after she had been confiscated by the local authorities. At that time she weighed only 1.6 pounds and was just skin, bones and two enormous eyes. Since being in our care she has come a long way. Most importantly, she has steadily gained weight, though she still has some way to go to be where she needs to be. She has found her voice, enjoys sitting in the sunshine and is learning how to accept kisses and cuddles without being afraid! She gets along fine with the other small dogs in her foster home and she likes to snuggle with them when it's nap time, but she doesn't show any interest in playing with them other than that. She has been well cared for by her foster to get her back to good health and get her ready for adoption! Pixie will need a very caring person who is willing to continue to nurture her and give her lots of love. She sleeps a lot still and, probably because of her history, she prefers to sleep buried under a soft blanket in her own bed. She needs to be coaxed to go outside to potty and will always need to be supervised when outside as she is so small that she is in danger from hawks and other urban predators. Pixie Bella is house broken. She used to use training pads inside the house until her foster felt she would benefit from being outside in the fresh air and sunshine! She eats a special diet of cooked chicken and soft puppy food to ensure she gets enough protein and vitamins to continue to gain weight and thrive. She is currently fed twice a day. So far the only way this little girl will drink water is with a syringe. She shows no desire to drink water on her own and her new owner will need to make sure she stays hydrated. As small as she is it's not a hard thing to have to do but it is something to be aware of. One thing she will lap up with no hesitation is goat's milk, which is really good for her. Pixie Bella will sleep in an open-door kennel or even in bed with her new owner. She doesn't play with toys or walk with a leash and harness. She is so tiny and easy to pick up you can tote her around in a cozy carrier or you can just carry around in your arms or even your pocket! Once she is comfortable with you she just may give you a little kiss on the cheeks to let you know she thinks you are OK! A home with no children or big dogs would be a best fit for her since she is so tiny and still very timid. She is up to date on her shots and has been wormed, gotten her Rabies vaccine and had a wellness check, including a blood panel.
