About Gus

Adoption Fee: $100
Treeing Walker Coonhound mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

We have a very smart, sweet, super handsome three-year-old male walker coonhound named Gus that needs a family without small children. He is a very warm and loving dog but has some anxiety and reactivity particularly towards children under 6 and our first child is getting to the walking stage. He gets along well with other dogs and lived with a cat for the first two years of his life, but he does have a chase instinct so would probably do best in a cat-free home. We adopted him from a family in southern Idaho as a puppy. Gus has had basic puppy obedience training at the K-9 Education Center, and we have been working with Petagogy Pet Training for the last year on further skills. He is also crate trained. He has not had training or experience hunting, but is very smart and clearly has the instincts for it. I think he would make a great hunting companion if someone had the inclination to teach him how. Gus enjoys: -runs and walks in the foothills -camping -car rides -sunbathing -chew toys -stimulating brain games -Home Depot -positive reinforcement -cuddles -sleeping under the covers -chasing rodents up trees (who doesn't?) -wading in water but not swimming in it Gus does NOT enjoy: -small children -cats (or he really does, but your cat won't like him) -reflections of light on the wall -insects -having his feet touched -negative reinforcement (being yelled at) -swimming -having baths (who does?) -the cold -sleeping alone We are looking for a home for Gus where he does not have the anxiety or restrictions imposed by small children. We would happily give him, and all his doggy accoutrements, to the right person. We will want to get to know anyone interested in adopting Gus and transitioning him to his new home over several visits.
