Samson (Sammy) is a 100lb, 8 year old American Bulldog who has been a part of our family since he was about 8 weeks old. He is an extremely sweet, goofy dog. Unfortunately for Samson, we had a baby in February and have been struggling to give Samson the attention he was used to and deserves. We live in an apartment and with the baby it's getting harder and harder to get him out for exercise and attention. We are looking to find him a forever home with someone who will give him lots of attention and who will love him like we do. Sammy does well on the leash for the most part (pulls a bit) but encountering other animals and people is a challenge. He has been on Xanax (alprazolam) for about 6 months to help with his anxiety. He had an encounter at a dog park a few years ago that changed his behavior around unfamiliar dogs and people when out of the home. People can come visit us and Sammy does well with those encounters. He has been around small children when he was younger but not in a while and not since the dog park. I would have to say he shouldn't be in a home with kids younger than 12yrs. We have another dog (a boston terrier) that Samson grew up with and does very well with, but we have not been able to see if he would do well with other dogs since the dog park incident. Sammy is very food motivated. He knows sit, lay down, roll over, spin and shake (his favorite!). He loves stuffy toys and rarely destroys them. He loves to be touching you whenever possible. In fact, if he weren't so big he would be perfectly content to be a lap dog. Sammy is not very noisy, he will alarm bark with knocks on the door, but other than that he is a very quiet dog. He is not a destructive dog and has never chewed on carpet/furniture/cords/shoes, etc. He doesn't get into kitchen trash but has on occasion inspected the bathroom trash and has a sporadic tissue snack. Not a fan of water so he hates baths (but peanut butter helps!). He will play with a ball although he doesn't quite get the concept of fetch. He loves looking for squirrels. He loves tummy rubs. He is a really wonderful dog and we wish we could still give him what he needs.
