Lucy is a sweet 4-year-old 22-lb. standard female Dachshund. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and heart worm negative. She is housebroken and uses a doggie door. Lucy was part of a seizure of puppy mill Dachshunds and is extremely scared of people and noises in general. She will take some time to warm up to someone and will hide until she does. Just as I did when I got her, she will need to be taken home in her crate. Let her out when you get home and just let her approach you on her own. Give her time to learn you are 'safe.' I used treats and avoided eye contact. She now follows me around the house. She will take to one person and be scared of all others. I think during her developmental years she had little to no contact with humans. She is on Prozac to help with her anxiety. She would do best with someone who has patience and a calm demeanor, and in a home with no children. I have an elderly dog that she inadvertently injures (6 lbs. versus 22 lbs.) and so I need to find her another home.
