About Little G

Adoption Fee: $100
Border Collie / Shar-Pei
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Little G or Franky G is this dog's name. He was from a litter of puppies that was born to our Pure Bread Shar Pei and our Border Collie on accident. We gave him to someone we knew and they were so excited to get him because he was by far the best looking one, he was so cute, but as he grew and started to act like dogs do, they grew bored of him, he wasn't cute anymore to them anyway, and they were not prepared to give him love that he needed. I believe he was abused and neglected during the year that they had him. They brought him back to us and said 'if you don't take him back we are taking him to the dog pound.' So my husband and I said to leave him because we didn't want him to be deserted at the pound. We already had 4 dogs of our own and surely did not need another dog but we have had him for about 4 1/2 years now and we love him so much. His favorite person is my husband Bill. He has some serious health problems and he often is stuck in bed with his feet elevated-Docs orders. Little G is always with him guarding his legs from everyone, even me. If I get close he jumps up to make sure he knows what I'm doing. Well, he thinks he is protecting his wounded master but actually he has caused scratches to Bill's legs instead quite often. Not his fault but it has happened which causes Bill more doctors appointments and pain and suffering. He also competes with our border collie Holly to herd my husband every time he gets up and moves throughout the house which is more pain because between the 2 dogs someone is always stepping on my husbands feet which is where he is in the most pain always. They both have a very loud bark when they hear one of my kids (who are grown) come in the front door or hear people outside on the street, they both rise at attention with their most ferocious bark and it startles us, which is what a good guard dog should do but Bill also has hearing aids that he just got a year ago and he has basically never been able to use them because when the dogs do alert us that someone is coming in or knocking on the door the noise that they make between the two of them just about gives my husband a heart attack and hurts his ears so bad because he hasn't been able to hear very good for many years so the sound is more than he can tolerate, so he just puts them in the drawer and continues to suffer from not being able to hear any of the conversations going on around him. So those are the three main reasons that we must make the hardest decision we have ever had to make, and choose Bill's quality of life over our dogs. We just can't afford to let my husband's health suffer anymore even though we love them like our kids. We think that Little G would be a very loyal companion to someone that has the patience to get to know him and build trust with him because he is very anxious when someone comes to the door and he is scared of the vacuum cleaner, and he really doesn't know the correct way to act on a leash, but he is very trainable. They just never gave him the proper training when he was a puppy and we didn't either. We just accepted him in with all the other dogs we had and suffered the consequences of not training them properly. We also think he deserves a dogs life, running and playing or working if he ends up having those qualities which I believe he does because of the loyalty he has for Bill. When he has been given the chance to run free he loves racing against the other dogs and when he comes in he is just glowing with excitement. I know he deserves a better life than we can give him, but our fear is that if he winds up in the dog pound, that he will be the one that no one wants because he is so nervous/anxious and he barks so loud when a new person approaches him. He may not even do that though if he is not guarding and protecting someone that is sick. (A wounded member of his pack). He may appear shy and timid if we are not around. All I know for sure is that once he gets to know you he is the most loving dog even around babies and small kids. He has also been raised around (at the maximum at one time) 7 dogs of all different breeds from Chihuahua to Pit bull and got along with all of them and allowed the more dominant dogs to be in charge and did not challenge them, so I am unsure how he will react around dogs he is not familiar with. He is so loving to our new grandbaby that is now 8 months old and our other grand kids that range from 6 yrs old - 17 years old. He lays on his back with all of his legs in the air which is usually how he sleeps and lets the kids play and pet his stomach and roll around with them as long as he knows them and they are not endangering Bill.
