Meet Bruno! I recently 'rescued' Bruno and I'm now trying to place him in his forever home. Bruno belonged to an elderly gentleman who really loved him, but was unable to keep him due to declining health / mobility. The gentleman moved into a subsidized housing complex that did not allow pets, but still tried to keep Bruno until he was served with an eviction notice. It was a very difficult decision but he knew he had to give up his little companion. He attempted to surrender him to a shelter but there was a $100 surrender fee, which he could not afford. He then tried to place Bruno with family, but to no avail. In desperation, he agreed to have me take Bruno with a promise to find him a great home. The man was in tears. I truly believe Bruno was the best medicine for him, but understood that he could not jeopardize his housing. A colleague agreed to take Bruno because her kids have desperately wanted a dog. However, Bruno was unaccustomed to children and nipped at her younger daughter (5 year old). To avoid an incident, I agreed to take Bruno back, however, my own dog is not dog friendly so I am eager to find Bruno the perfect home. Since I picked him up he has been nothing but a gentleman and has shown no sign of any type of aggressive behavior. My best guess is that Bruno is about 3+ years old. He's already neutered but I don't have any other information about his health. From what I can tell thus far, he is house trained and he settles into his kennel just fine. He is also fine with cats - I have three cats and he walks right past them, although one has attacked him a couple of times and he now gives a wide berth. He appears to be quite the watch dog. He barks when people approach the house, but has been very friendly to all he's met while out walking with me and when he met my landscaper. He also appears to really like one little dog that lives around the corner. My colleague that had him for the past 2 weeks also mentioned that he'd befriended a dog near her home, so I think as with most other cases it would depend on the dog whether he could be in a home with another dog. As for kids, I can't offer any more information than what my colleague shared -- he was nippy with her younger 5-year old (never actually bit or broke through skin) and was fine with her 9-year old who walked him regularly. What I know: He was in a home as an only dog with an older gentleman He is not aggressive toward (or interested in) cats He is neutered He is super sweet He likes to be a watch dog - barks to claim his territory He has been playful with other dogs He may be around 15 pounds or so He loves long walks and romps in the yard He likes giving kisses He enjoys riding in the car He sleeps soundly in his kennel He deserves a great home! I hope to work with a local rescue group to set up an adoption for Bruno, but I'm putting the word out now because I know the foster situation here with me is very short term because of my own dog and my work schedule.
