About Leo

Adoption Fee: $100
Rhodesian Ridgeback / Lab
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Leo is a 2.5yr old male dog who weighs around 85lbs. he has the coloring of a shepherd but has a personality of a hound/lab mix. he is in good health, recently vaccinated, and has a stomach of steel. he enjoys being with other dogs and loves to play. he is shy at first but warms up and makes 'chewbacca' like noises when playing- its really entertaining! He would benefit from someone who has time and resources to work with him. his first year of life is unknown but has left him with behaviors that need structured practice and repetition for improvement- not ideal for a multiple person household or busy person who thinks things will work out on their own. he does great at daycare and loves exercise. a joy to go on walks or runs with! behavioral issues: separation anxiety when crated (previous owners experienced destruction when uncrated. crying and barking when he is first left but settles for a longer periods when needed), resource guarding of food (mild reaction, growls and hovers, improvements possible) territorial when on his bed or human furniture (doesn't like to be bothered when tired and unhappily obliges to get off couch when asked), territorial of yard if other dogs pass by or intimidating person enters(improvements possible with continued positive reinforcement of 'leave it'), anxiety and whining when in the car (improvements possible with short frequent rides increasing in duration), submissively pees if hit or feels overly threatened/scared (currently minimal since negative reinforcement/hitting is not present but does have a history of this issue). All in all, he has his quirks and needs to be worked with, but none of his issues are overly aggressive as they stem from fear. They are problems that can be fixed with the help of a professional trainer and owner dedication. great dog with lots of potential once a bond is established and allows for security and growth. he is great with infants and other dogs, (experience with todlers, children, an cats unknown) however the attention required to see improvements most likely don't include households with other pets/priorities. he loves having another dog to play with (who is also younger and interested in playing. older dogs will likely become annoyed) no medications or dietary restrictions. basic obedience training only, has proficient level. housebroken and crate trained. we are unable to dedicate the time and financial resources he needs and will not allow him to live in a shelter or be euthanized.
