Golden Retriever / Poodle
Age: Young Adult

Date into Rescue: 03/25/2019 Reason for being in rescue: Lovingly surrendered by owners Foster location: Foster home in Raleigh, NC Special Needs? Bee has a known history of resource guarding. Her foster home has found her behavior is easily redirected and managed. She needs an experienced owner who understands this behavior and is comfortable managing it. Weight: 24 lbs Height: in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $399 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Bee is a beautiful, young dog who needs very experienced owners. She has lived her entire life as an only dog. While she is coexisting happily with the other dogs in her foster home, she really wants to be the only dog. She is fine with cats. Bee cannot live in a home with children. She would do best in a quiet home where she gets plenty of exercise and has clear boundaries. What is my personality like? Bee is best described as misunderstood. She was purchased as a puppy by owners who had no experience with dogs and lived a fairly sheltered life for her first 3 years. She's had minimal exposure to other dogs and has been allowed to really run her home. When her owners could no longer manage her behavior they surrendered her to Carolina Poodle Rescue. Bee is living in a foster home with experienced owners. She is doing fine with the small dogs in the home but is still timid about the large dog. In time she may learn to play with bigger dogs, but right now they still intimidate her. She is completely indifferent to cats, though she will occasionally bark if they startle her. Bee is definitely a doodle with an attitude. She is accustomed to getting what she wants and this needs to be managed tightly. She enjoys toys, but at times these become prizes that she will resource guard. When this happens her foster home redirects her focus, removes the toy, and she has to earn that privilege back. She will also 'claim' a piece of furniture as hers. Again, her focus has to be redirected and her ability to sit on a piece of furniture revoked until she earns the privilege back. Bee is fully house and crate trained. She sleeps in her crate at night, a safe place that she will need to continue to sleep in. There has been no resource guarding related to her crate in her foster home. Outside the house, Bee absolutely LOVES to run and play. She could play frisbee for hours and enjoys long walks and runs. Exercise is good for her physical and mental stimulation and she needs a home committed to a daily play and exercise routine. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly Other tips and tidbits: Bee has a lot of personality and is an incredibly affectionate dog. She needs boundaries and a firm owner who is comfortable managing her attitude. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
