About Ariel

Adoption Fee: $50
Pit Bull / Poodle
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Ariel is my best friend which is why it's so hard to give her up. She's a pit bull mix (based on a DNA test), 45 pounds, a beautiful brown and red coat, and I think she's about 5-6 years old (unsure since she was a rescue). I'm recently divorced and I'm unable to spend the amount of quality time she deserves, I need to find her a forever home. I recently moved to a micro-studio because I had to sell my car and move closer to work. In addition to more time with her, she needs more space. She's extremely intelligent and I've taught her several commands like sit, stay, shake, lie down, spin (counter-clockwise), unwind (clockwise), high-five, whisper, speak (actual bark), roll over, and play dead. She is house trained, crate trained and can stay home upwards of 5 to 6 hours at a time. She's not a bad chewer and will only play (and destroy) her own toys. She only eats dog food and the treats I provide her. She has had some behavioral issues since I adopted her (no doubt remnants from before I rescued her). I used to take her to doggy daycare but after about a year, I was told that she was getting in too many fights and she was no longer allowed to attend. I took her to obedience courses for several months and she improved. She still exhibits some reactivity/fearfulness around other dogs and strangers. I work with her every day on our walks, as she is highly food motivated. I wouldn't recommend a home with small children as she's not had as much exposure to them. I would recommend a home where she can be the only animal. Once she warms up to you, she's a sweetheart. She would thrive in a place with a fenced yard, though not a requirement -- she loves long walks just as much. Ariel loves to snuggle and be near you. She loves to play tug of war and will let you know when she needs help getting a treat out of her bone.
