About Scarlett

American Staffordshire Terrier / Mastiff
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Female, spayed, 8 years old, 80 pounds Hi! My name is Scarlet and I need a new home. I was adopted 4 years ago from a rescue, and have been living in Kingston, NH with my two humans ever since. I have a mom and an 11-year old sister. It's been all about girl power until recently when the family dynamics changed. Yup, you guessed it. A man entered the picture. Oh snap! The mom says I'm a sweet, curious girl who craves attention. I like to be close and sit on her lap. I am convinced I'm a loveable lap dog, but I'm told I just don't realize how big I am. I love my sister because sometimes we play and work on commands. I'm also house-trained and crate-trained. A doggie evaluator says I'm a friendly girl that just needs exercise and things to do. She feels I'm bored and need enrichment because when there's excitement around me I tend to get jumpy and air snap. She says I don't know what else to do because I was never taught any better. I do love chewing on things and hope my new home has some rugged chew toys and yummy marrow bones. Sometimes I get carrots to get my crunch on. Well guess what? Those carrots are part of a diet! I'm proud of my full figure but the mom says I need to get fit. I'm OK with that because I enjoy munching on frozen green beans with my kibble. So here's the thing, I don't do good with change and have become quite jumpy and nippy especially lately. I never bit anyone in my life but one day I completely forgot myself and bit the man's hand pretty hard. He's OK but I'm in the dog house. You see, there's a new baby on the way and the mom says I need a new home because I may accidentally hurt a little human. My nippy issues scare people so I need someone to help me follow the Golden Rule. I would love some mental and physical activities to keep me busy and gain confidence so I don't act naughty. I would also like a quiet home since I get overexcited when there's lots of commotion. If you could help me stay calm and focused, I know I'd be a lady to be proud of. But when things get busy and noisy, you can place me in my crate in a quiet room. We'll all be loving life if I'm not allowed to get super excited. The good news is any snippy snappy behavior can be redirected since I love treats and am willing to learn. This really works for me! I do need to be the only pet in your home. I am not a fan of cats and I just haven't had the chance to make canine friends yet. So if you want a loyal friend and have a calm home, contact my buddy Mary Lou. Let's meet! [email protected]
