About Greta

This is Greta, a 2 year old, 9 pound Dachshund who came to us from a rough living situation. Greta is very shy but also very sweet. She just wants to be near and cuddle with her person. At night she sleeps under the covers and she likes to give kisses. She's smart but just starting to come out of her shell. Greta is working on her house breaking and has learned how to use a dog door. She can climb a baby gate, is not leash trained and requires a fenced yard. Greta is good with the other dogs in her foster home but still prefers to observe them rather than interact. We think that will change as she gets more comfortable in the home but she will need time and patience to settle in. Greta was recently adopted but did not settle in her new home straight away, so she was returned to us. She was afraid and ran and hid as soon as she got to her new home so did not bond with her new family. We now know that she cannot go to a home with children as she is unpredictable when she is afraid. She needs a home where she can be left alone initially so she can find her own way to you. She won't react well to being picked up until she trusts you. She just needs time to feel safe. This poor girl had been living outside and as a result is heartworm positive. She has started her treatment which her adopter must agree to continue. The treatment consists of certain type of heartworm preventative given monthly until she is heartworm negative. The rescue pays for her testing until she is heartworm free. Greta has had a wellness check, a fecal and parasite test, is wormed, up to date on shots, spayed and microchipped with a lifetime registration.
