About Mia

Adoption Fee: $100
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

I am looking for some help. In October we found a dog about to be hit by a car. She was sweet and calm. She was in bad shape. She had open sores on both ears and on top of her head and rump. She was missing fur on her ears head and back along her spine, super skinny and under weight. She was caked with mud and covered in fleas. We didn't want to take her to the SPCA because we didn't want her to be put down. We gave her the name Mia because she must be someone's dog missing in action. We looked for anyone missing her. No one had been looking for her or caring for her as we could tell by her condition. She flinched every time someone would raise their hands and she would cower if anyone raised their voice to her. When she runs her hips get thrown to one side. And she has a flat spot in her spine that we assume she was hit with something. Wherever she came from it was not a safe loving place for a dog. We took her to an emergency vet appointment to get her checked out. We had no intentions of keeping her but we wanted her in her best health to find a new home. We already had three dogs at the time. We found out she had heartworm, double ear infection and had given birth to puppies. She had an allergic reaction to the infestation of fleas. She was given all her shots and meds for the heartworm. We searched for a home for her and reached out to rescues. Only one returned our message but let us know they had no room for her. During our time taking care of her we introduced her to our family and she was very happy to meet our dogs. She is somewhat aggressive with them and would constantly start fight to get attention from them. We didn't think much of it until one fight they had left her with a hole through her ear and lip%BD'%BD| We took her back to the vet. I mentioned looking for a home for her and they let us place a flyer up in the office. She is a loving dog with high energy levels. As she regained her weight and healed up from all the fleas she became more hyper. Again this was not that bad and we continued to search with no results for a home for her. One of our dogs passed away from cancer and we thought maybe the other two dogs would warm up to her because she would be the only female in the house. I bought training collars for all of them and started using them. We have a big family over all the time and friends that are constantly over. One day she snapped at a family member. And then she nipped one leaving a blood blister. She does not like that family member and chases him whenever he comes in the house. We when taking precautions and placing her in the crate when he would be home with us. It only got worse. Her hair stands up and she is scared and most likely being protective. I figured we could try to train her to be ok with his brother. She continues to push the other two dogs into fighting with her because they don't want to play with her. She has not gotten better with the family member and I can't wait any longer to find her a home. My networking is obviously not big enough to find her a home. We don't have the money to have her properly trained and cant have her locked up every time people come over to our house. I never know who she will like and not like. She has nipped two other people now and they haven't shown her any aggression or given her a reason to nip them. I plan on getting pregnant soon and do not want to be going through this while pregnant or god forbids she not like the new baby. Adoption fee will be returned to adopted after a period of time...
