Shasta is a 4 1/2 to 5 year old mixed breed. She weighs about 55 lbs. We found her alongside the road 3 1/2 years ago nearly starved to death. The vet didn't think she would survive. We treated her for heartworm, got her on a vet program, got her fixed and for the last 2 1/2 years she has functioned as my wife's service dog for PTSD. Unfortunately earlier this month Shasta attacked and seriously injured one of our other dogs. We don't know what triggered it but we had to take the injured dog to the vet (that one is fine now). We got Shasta a muzzle and thought we were going to be ok, but earlier this week she attacked the same dog again, fortunately she was wearing her muzzle. Shasta is a sweet a loving dog and has never attacked or injured a human being, but we can no longer trust her as a service dog or around our other dogs and I can't wrap my head around keeping her in a kennel for the rest of her life. I don't want to have to have her put down, but I'm running out of options. Shasta would be a great dog for someone who understands pit mixes and has no other dogs. Please help us.
