Atticus came into our care after he was turned in as a stray to a high-kill shelter. He is a senior fella and is approx 10-12 years old. Atticus loves to give kisses, loves to be petted, and deserves a furever home. When Atticus first came into our care, we could tell that he had never lived with other dogs, but he has gotten used to them. He has no issues co-existing with other furry critters. Just like the character in To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus is very even-keeled and doesn't get too worked up about stressful situations...unless it's grooming day. We had to remove all of his teeth with the exception of his two bottom canines, and he has no problem showing you just how much life is in him...if you try to groom him. Hopefully, your vet has a groomer on staff that might be able to lightly sedate him to accomplish the task; otherwise, he creates an overwhelming situation for himself. Atticus is also one of those quirky Poms who acts like he doesn't know how to walk on anything but carpet. There are vinyl floors in his foster home with runners throughout; however, this is not the ideal situation for him to spend his life in. He is completely housetrained, so a home with carpet would be on the top of his wishlist. As with most seniors and Pomeranians, Atticus does come with some health issues. He has the notorious collapsing trachea, which is controlled with Theophylline and Torbutrol or Tussigon twice a day. A fenced yard is required so that a harness does not irritate his trachea. He also receives medication and a low-protein diet for his aging liver, and Gabapentin as needed for arthritis. Atticus also has mature cataracts and is hard of hearing, which doesn't really seem to affect him much. Atticus weighs 12-14 pounds, is current on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped. He's looking for a furever, carpeted home where he can spend his golden years. You can follow his progress on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/PawsitivelyPomRescue.
