About Mollie (Mo)

Australian Cattle Dog / Pit Bull
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

UPDATE:Mollie has found her forever home with us. We continue to work with her on dominance issues and, in all other ways, she is a great dog and addition to our family and we cherish her. She is very attached to us all and loves to swim and catch her tennis ball daily. She's one of the brightest dogs we've ever had. Thanks to anyone who has inquired. I will remove this post after giving some time for people to read this. Mollie is supposedly a red heeler mix, with possibly pitbull. We rescued Mollie before she was to be sent to a shelter last June. We are her 3rd home in about 3.5-4 yrs. She had a litter of puppies 1.5 yrs ago with prior owner. She is currently spayed, microchipped and soon will have full vaccinations. Her previous owners where a young couple with a baby and an older dog that she was dominant with. They had no time for her and a small back yard and could not exercise her. The first owner was hospitalized often so they took her in because the original owner was too sick to adequately exercise and care for an active breed herding dog. We taught her to swim and she loves to jump in the lake after a tennis ball. We try to take her to a park every other day to run and catch balls. She lives to run. She is a brilliant, obedient dog but needs training on her dominance issues. We have been working on her getting along with other dogs and she is imptoving. If she doesn't get exercise, she is a bit anxious at home even though we are aren't a sedentary family, she still requires more than we can give her for exercise and interest. She would do best with someone who can use her on a farm or near the lake on a daily basis for her to be satisfied and truly content. She has female dominant tendencies but with a proper master guiding her, she complies extremely well. She is a wonderful, intelligent dog who obeys our commands and complies around wildlife, never chasing them and always stays when commanded. She has never runaway and is not a flightrisk. She is easily trainable and a good girl. We have cats and she is a bit dominant with them at times. She will obey us and leave them be when instructed. One cat reacts by hissing and they have scuffled and scratched her but the others ignore her and she does not react to them then. We are very fond of her but unable to leave her with family who have dogs at this time. Other than these dominant issues, she is really one of the best behaved dogs we've ever had. She is not destructive at all, has never chewed anything other than her tennis balls and rawhides and can be left in home for hours or car and she just sleeps. She is not toy or food aggressive at all. She rarely barks but is a great watchdog and protective of her home. She has never soiled on the floors once and goes outside to do her duty on command. Once someone who was supposed to leave her out while we were gone for half a day, and could not, at last minute. We were unable to make it back home for 10 hours and she still hadn't urinated inside the whole time. She does not steal food or jump on furniture. She is well behaved but protective of her home and people. She is loyal, and a very sweet girl and deserves more than we can give ger. Would love to have her in home where she can swim as she learned how to with us and loves jumping in a lake for tennis balls. A farm would also be good where she can be outside a lot. e just got her microchipped and are scheduled to get her vaccinations in June. She had a one year rabies shot when adopted last summer. We will be heartbroken to not have her in our family but feel she is not living her best intended life for her breed type, with us. She needs to be worked and active to truly be happy and content. She is young and deserves a full life. She needs a final home so that she isn't attached and moving on again. The next home needs to be her final one. We need to make sure it is the right one and we would take her back if it did not work out well. We would want a contract saying that new owner will return her to us rather than send her elsewhere or to a shelter.
