Meet & Greets will continue to be on an appointment basis only. They will take place either in the outside enclosed area, or the large room at the end of he kennels. There is a no contact, other than with the dog in place and children will not be allowed out of their vehicles. WATSON was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved. WATSON is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, monthly preventatives, heartworm and tick disease tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 21 March 2017 and at the time of rescue in the middle of April 2019, weighed around 47.60 pounds. He is listed as an Australian Cattle Dog . We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely. Before Watson arrived at the rescue I had asked the shelter if he had any issues as he looked afraid in the shelter picture. They told me he was great and had no issues at all. When he arrived at the rescue it was very apparent that this wasn't quite true and he was very fearful of people. He would cower and almost try and force himself into the wall when I would go into his kennel and tremble if I touched him. He was never and has never shown any kind of aggression, no growling, no snarling, nothing just clearly afraid. I brought him over to the communal area so that he could start to build confidence with other dogs, which he did and although still very fearful of me, his personality started to come out when playing with the other dogs. He is submissive with them, but loves to play and chase and be chased. I then brought him up to the house so that he could see the dogs interacting more with me and he is making slow progress. I have taken him for a walk with Leyna one of the dogs he was good friends with and felt comfortable with. He was very nervous but obviously felt much better due to Leyna being there. He would walk fine on a leash when he has his confidence he was just very nervous and always looking around and cowering Watson has been at the rescue since April 2019 and has come a long way, but still has a very long way to go with humans. He needs a family that has a fenced in yard and understands his need to learn to trust at his own pace and help him build up his confidence. It is really special to see him happy running and playing with the other dogs, and taking it to the step where he can be like that with humans can be achieved with the right family. He would also benefit from having another dog in the household. Although Watson is fearful now - he does need the caring and understanding family to help him gain confidence, but then he needs an active family who can give him the lifestyle that he needs when he is as he should be a happy, fun loving boy. We do not know how he is around cats or livestock at the rescue. All dogs (except dogs saved from China) are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
