About Sparrow

Pomeranian / Chihuahua
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Sparrow was on the euthanasia list of a NY Kill shelter because he was ripped from the only family he ever knew and thrown into a big scary shelter where he lost his mind. The poor guy was so terrified he wet himself just by the shelter vet examining him. PPR pulled Sparrow just in time and when he arrived he was still fearful. It took a few weeks for the true Sparrow to make his way out and boy oh boy is he a quirky guy. Sparrow is leash trained, knows basic commands, and is crate trained. He is very apt to approach strangers but then freezes and growls. He takes time to warm up to new people and takes time to allow those in the home to show human to human contact without him trying to intervene. Sparrow needs an active home that likes to walk and a home that likes to let him be apart of the family. We are still working on housetraining so he does wear a belly bend. A structured environment is crucial for the first month so that he knows his role in the family and as he adjusts he can have more freedom. While Sparrow is smart, he can be bullheaded and despises grooming. We take our time with him and use positive reinforcement for grooming and he has slowly made progress, but a muzzle is necessary. If you like the quirky characters then Sparrow is the guy for you! To adopt Sparrow, please complete an adoption application at PomPaws.org. The $250 adoption fee covers his fecal, heartworm and Lyme test, bloodwork, urinalysis, and neuter.
