About Westley

Treeing Walker Coonhound / Lab
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Needs: 'ۢ Adult Home 'ۢ Solo Dog 'ۢ No Cats. Like his namesake Westley from 'The Princess Bride', Handsome Westley is motivated entirely by love, and is deeply loyal. This devoted 3 1/2 year old 55 lb Treeing Walker Coonhound/ Lab (DNA tested) has the eager to please nature of the lab, and the smarts and sweet soulful expression of the Coonhound. Westley thrives on affection and structure, and connects deeply to the people who provide it. He relies on his person to guide and teach him, and is a keen student. In his foster home he has learned to be excellent on leash, and on walks he stays connected to his person, consistently checking in, looking for guidance. Wes is perfectly house and crate trained, and knows 'sit', 'down', 'wait', and 'go to bed'. If he could talk, he would say 'As You Wish' Smart and silly Westley is an entertaining dog who LOVES his toys. He also loves to go on long sniffing exploratory walks-he is no couch potato. He would be happy to be a running buddy, though it's all about his nose so a route at any pace with plenty of places to sniff will bring him joy. True to his breed's innate prey drive, Westley is a little too interested in small critters, so should not live with cats. He is very sensitive to energy and activity levels in the home, and can get overstimulated by the natural happy activity of children and other dogs, so he would do best as a solo dog. Lounging on his doggie bed and snuggling with his people are 2 of his favorite past-times- especially when it is cold as he loves to be warm. Always up for a car ride or an adventure of any kind, Westley is truly a wonderful companion who will thrive in a loving home with an active lifestyle. Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a dog from A New Chance Animal Rescue (https://anewchancear.org). We are a 501c3, tax deductible organization. ANCAR is a foster-based rescue, and we adopt within a 90 mile radius of Bedford Hills, NY. You will find the adoption application here:(https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-application/). Please read about the adoption process (https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-process/) so you'll know what to expect when you submit. All fields on the application must be completed in order for our volunteers to process it (https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-application/) Our dogs are in foster care and we do NOT have a shelter or boarding facility. AN APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL AND APPROVED BEFORE A DOG CAN BE MET. This is a firm policy. Our busy volunteers are not able to respond to questions about the dog or dog meeting requests in the absence of an application. We know these dogs very well because they are in foster care, so please read the profiles of the dog(s) you are interested prior to submitting. If there are specific requirements stated (ie: Fenced Yard or Canine Friend Required) these are included because they are vital to the happiness, health and safety of that dog. We are only able to save as many dogs as we have foster homes (https://anewchancear.org/foster/faqs/) and resources for. We provide medical care including vaccinations, testing, deworming, spaying/neutering, and microchipping before transporting our dogs. Then, we provide all supplies, preventatives and any follow up vet care necessary while they are in foster care. These costs are high and the number of lives we can save is entirely dependent upon donations from people like you. We do not receive funding from private foundations or government sources, so if you can find room in your heart to help us, with any amount, we are truly grateful (https://anewchancear.org/help/donate/). We are a 501c3 organization, so all donations are tax-deductible. It is only through the kindness of supporters like you that we are 'changing lives...one tail at a time' by providing our dogs with 'A New Chance.' (https://anewchancear.org) Thanks so much.
