About Montgomery

English Setter
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Unlike the fictional children's hero, Hank the Cowdog, Montgomery (Monty) did not have a storybook beginning. Monty spent his first two years before rescue on a hunting ranch in South Texas where he and his siblings lived in outdoor kennels and were not fed adequately or socialized properly with people. Initially he was uncertain about living in a home with people but that changed with time and patience in foster care and Monty is now very comfortable living inside. He is house trained and crate trained. He is a very bright and lively boy with lots of Setter energy. His favorite thing is to throw toys around the yard while playing keep away. Monty is currently living in a foster home with two other dogs and seems to do well with all dogs he's met in rescue. Because of Monty's rough start, he is not a candidate for a hunting home. He does guard food as a very valuable resource.. He should be fed separately in his new home. Monty will do best in a home where he earns his privileges and is not allowed on the furniture or to sleep in bed for at least the first few months. The perfect home for Monty would be one that has experience with young busy Setters, is very active, allows plenty of outdoor time and is good at providing leadership and establishing boundaries. He is an easy introduction to new dogs and another dog in the home would be very helpful, but not a requirement. He does need a home with a secure 6' fenced yard where he can exercise multiple times a day in a safe environment. Monty is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and tests, on heartworm preventative and microchipped. Are you the adopt/foster-to-adopt home and family for this sweet Setter boy?
