BEAUTIFUL HOUND WITH SPECIAL NEEDS FOR ADOPTION IN WA STATE LAYLA, DOB aprox 2013 She was rehomed by another charity to an elderly lady who could barely walk her 5min . So we took over. This is what her foster mum sais about her: Layla is a sweet girl who really wants to go on walks, hikes, or really anywhere that is quiet and outdoors. She is very snuggly and will quickly claim your sofa, bed, or anywhere that is soft and high up so she can keep an eye on things. We are working on leash manners, but its a bit slow going because she is not very food motivated. She will happily take a treat, and then put in on the ground'| She will offer a very nice sit if you ask her, and she responds well to hand signals along with verbal commands (sit is flat hand pointing up). We are working on down but those long legs have a hard time making it all the way down! She is cat workable but has snapped at my cat a few times when he gets too close to her. I don't leave them alone together, but she has never tried to chase him so I think her reaction to him is more out of discomfort than prey drive. She barks when she hears noises outside or when people come to the door, but usually settles down quickly. She has had bad experiences with other dogs that have made her very fearful. She does not like other dogs in the house, and she doesn't play with my Borzoi even after being around him for weeks and taking them on walks together, although when we have passed dogs outside on walks she is much less reactive. It would be good for her to be socialized to other dogs at a comfortable distance in a place where she doesn't feel trapped. She needs to be socialized to new sounds, people, animals, etc. at her own pace. It would be great for her to be taken to shops, parks, or hardware stores where she could get used to new things at a distance and at her own pace. Over time she will learn to trust you and the world that you present to her and her fear will start to fade. She loves to be around her people, and jumps up and starts running around the house any time I get the leash out. A quiet, active family would be perfect for Layla, I would not recommend her around kids. Overall, she's a real sweetie and makes a great hiking buddy and bed warmer!
