About Sugar

English Setter
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Hi, my name is Sugar and you might ask how I got to be so sweet. After all, in my seven years in this world, I have changed homes at least six times! Starting out as a non-hunter just minutes from being listed on Craigslist by a Texas backyard breeder/hunter, I was saved by SWESR, but moved from foster to adopter to foster to adopter; you get the picture. The thing is it was through no fault of my own. Sadly, my persons met with unfortunate accidents, illnesses, and did the very best for me by recognizing they could no longer take care of an active young dog. The best part is that I was loved and respected on each stop. If it weren't for all those persons being so nice to me, I just wouldn't have become the sweet Setter I am today. My name definitely fits. But now I need a permanent furever home. I am a happy, healthy, girl with sparkling brown eyes and a smile as big as the world. My coat is the softest white, and I sport one quite fetching apricot patch on my left ear. While I love snuggling on the couch with the best, I am certainly not a couch potato! I need daily walks and a large fenced yard with lots of room to run. If you are looking for a fabulous walking companion, I am your girl. And while I might be a little excited to start off, by some Setter miracle, I do not pull on my leash. And besides as a pocket-setter, I only weigh a slim and trim 35 pounds. I promise to be your best buddy, inside and out. I am crate-trained and am happy to do all my business outside as long as you will go out with me regularly and not forget me outside. My current foster Mom is so impressed how well I fit in with her pack of dogs and cats so quickly. She thinks I will do best with another dog brother or sister who will join me in playing and being busy in the backyard, with you not too far away of course. And she thinks I need a person who will give me lots of singular attention and be with me most of the time. That's because when I am left alone too much, I get a little worried and nervous that I'll be shipped off yet again. I really want the chance to a part of a stable, active family who will enjoy being with me forever. I get nervous in the car and then curl into a ball so I am not a candidate for a long volunteer transport to a new home and flying to a new home would be scary for me and I might cry the entire way. I'll do ok in the car with my new person after I have some time to realize I am not going anywhere other than an outing. I learned some really quick escape skills in a previous home where I was able to bolt out of the door and go for run-abouts. Sometimes I came back on my own, sometimes they had to come corral me back. My foster mom says I need a home with very secure doors and gates and a home with kids coming and going won't be a good match for me because I am certain to take advantage of any open door or gate. And I won't come back when you call me. Sugar's furever home should have doors/gates that are 100% escape proof, daily walks, lap and bed privileges and another active dog to play with and keep her company. After all I've been through she says a very secure home is a must for me. When I arrived at my current foster home near Austin, TX, I was all decked out in pink: collar, leash, harness, and crate. And you guessed it, I am pretty in pink, but I really don't care what color my leash is, just as long as there is a loving and lively person at the end of it. Sugar is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations and tests, on heartworm preventative and microchipped.
