About Chiquita

Adoption Fee: $150
Great Pyrenees / Golden Retriever
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Update: A DNA test revealed that Chiquita is 25% Greta Pyrenees, 12.5% Golden Retriever, 12.5% Staffordshire Terrier and 50% unrecognizable mix in her genetic make-up. Chiquita means small in Spanish. The gentleman who rescued her mother from the streets in a Mexican border town named her that since she was so much smaller than most dogs. A visitor to the area noticed he had many dogs chained in his yard and approached him fearing they were being used for dog fighting. The gentleman explained that he has to chain them to prevent them from getting away from his yard. He explained that the area does not have an animal shelter and if caught they are euthanized the same day. The gentleman feeds them, tries to give them enough love and a neighbor helps him with veterinary care when she has the extra money. The challenge there is the nearest veterinarian clinic is about 2 hours away. Chiquita is about 10 months old and weighs 38 lbs. A few volunteers from our rescue group drove 400 miles each way to pick up Chiquita (and 3 other dogs) and brought them to Waco. Chiquita was nervous but quiet and clean in her crate during the trip. She has been the same in her crate in the foster home. It is nice watching her decompress and start playing. If you are interested in adopting Chiquita here is the link to our adoption application:
