About Brutus

This handsome gentleman is Brutus. He is a 10 year old Chihuahua who came to us from a New Orleans shelter. Brutus was apparently adopted from the shelter but was then returned and we have no idea why, so this new change has to be confusing to him. At his age he should be relaxing in a loving home; instead he finds himself surrounded by the unknown. We have no clue what he's been through that has brought him to this point in his life so his foster mom is taking things slow with him. He is a little skittish but she can pick him and wrap him in a blanket and cuddle him and he seems to really enjoy that. Brutus also likes going outside and will let you put his leash on to take him out to explore and enjoy the backyard. He was recently adopted but was returned as he kept trying to dig under the fence, so he needs to be watched when outside until he settles and feels safe in his new environment. He is crate trained and 99% potty trained as long as you take him out regularly. He won't ask you to go out so you need to keep on top of that and make sure he isn't left for long periods where he can't get outside. Of course, he is still new to his foster home so, that may change and improve as he gets used to a new routine. Brutus is good with other dogs in his foster home. He is not cat tested and we don't recommend a home with kids for him. We think he needs someone who is familiar with chihuahuas and is willing to be patient with him as he settles in. We are looking forward to seeing him become more comfortable and come out of his shell with some positive attention. Brutus is heartworm negative, up to date on shots, neutered and microchipped with a lifetime registration. He is scheduled to have dental surgery on 3/11. Brutus hopes that someone out there sees this post and wants to take him home and love on him so he can enjoy the rest of his life in comfort and safety.
