About Brie & Feta

Adoption Fee: $500
Chihuahua
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

These two chis (cheese) were found wandering loose near Chicago in January, turned in as strays, and not claimed. We named them after types of cheese as a humorous recognition of the breed!! We believe these dogs were well-loved because they are both quite friendly, secure, and are well-trained overall. Brie weighs about 3 %BD pounds and two vets have given us age ranges between 8 and 12 years. She has no teeth and is missing half of her lower jaw. Neither vet was sure whether this was congenital or the result of an injury. She eats canned food well, though it must be on a plate as opposed to a bowl for her to be able to scoop it up. She can also eat soft treats but these need to be held for her under her mouth rather than at the front of her mouth as we do with most dogs. Although she does not have cataracts and does seem to see well, she appears to have a congenital problem with her eyes. One vet saw 'holes' in her eyes and her pupils do not react to light in the normal way. Brie enjoys being on her foster mom's chest or along her side. She's actually slept on her back in the foster mom's arms, much like we normally hold an infant. Feta is larger at 5-6 pounds and was suspected by one vet as being older, perhaps 12 years of age. She appears to have the beginning of cataracts. She has 1 tooth, and having a more normal mouth than Brie, her tongue hangs out one side of her mouth like happens to most toothless dogs. Feta is a sweetheart and will ask to be held by standing up against a person's leg and looking hopeful. Since the foster mom's lap is often claimed by Brie or one of the foster mom's own dogs, Feta has claimed the bottom of the recliner by snuggling down between the foster mom's calves on the chair. There, she's quite content and often sleeps warm and cozy. Both dogs are being fostered by one of our long-term foster moms. She reports that both dogs are friendly, well-behaved in most ways, and very comfortable being handled and held by everyone. She actually took them to a small university class and each was handled and held by class members, appearing to be quite secure and comfortable. Maybe being therapy dogs would be in their future! Both dogs are basically pee-pad trained but sometimes wet beside the pad rather than on the pad. The only negative about these girls so far is that they get growly with each other and with the foster mom's own dogs if they believe their personal space is being invaded. Meanwhile, they will get into the foster mom's own dogs' crates and growl if the crate owner wants to get into her own crate!! This has never escalated into a fight or standoff. The foster mom is working on these issues both vocally and by removing these two from crates belonging to another dog. Brie & Feta are a bonded pair and their adoption fee together is $500. If you have room in your family for a dynamic duo of sweet and silly little ladies, then Brie & Feta are ready to be your golden girls.
