About Twizzler

Hi. I am Twizzler. I have been at the shelter very long time and I need a loving, mellow and quiet home. I am a handsome Terrier Mix and am around 5.5 years young. I am shy at first, but once I know you I will wag all the time and welcome gentle pets from you (and snacks too if you are so inclined)...and I will offer gentle kisses, as well! You see, I was not listed as adoptable due to my neurological problem (when I get irritated or scared, I will start spinning around, chasing my tale while trying to bite at it). If I do this, you only need to step back and keep your hands away. It only lasts for a few seconds and then I am okay. I am NOT malicious in any way to anyone but I do get very nervous around new people, especially when they try to grab at me. I have an enlarged heart and a high-grade heart murmur, and a congenital heart condition. Luckily, I need no medications or surgeries, and Doc says I should live into my teens as long as I have a low-stress environment. I, also, need to stay near my current elevation (so, no flights and no hikes up Mt. Fuji please). I shouldn't be with anyone under the age of 18 as I may nip when I am scared, grabbed at, or if I am handled too much, but I will give you fair warning with a snarl and growl first. Other than that, I am pretty low maintenance and am not a 'needy' dog. I know how to use a doggie door. I will mark initially, but I tend to prefer to 'do my business' outside of my living space. I am fine with other dogs as long as they are not in my face, constantly sniffing me, or jumping on me. If they do, I will typically go into a spin (again...just step back and all is good). I rarely bark. I don't chew on anything, I love belly rubs, I like soft and furry toys to play with, and I sleep quietly through the night. I love to bask in the sun! I don't like small spaces and may bark at first if you put me in a kennel, but I eventually settle in. I love affection but I don't need it all the time. I just want someone to love me. I deserve that. Love, Twizzler Twizzler weighs 14 pounds and is full grown. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, vet checked.
