About Sarah (Special Needs)

Adoption Fee: $50
Chihuahua mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Local adoptions only; within a 75 mile radius of Quail Valley/Menifee in southwest Riverside County. Beautiful Sarah is looking for a quiet home with one or two people. She will do best in a home without young children and cats. Experienced dog owner recommended because she does nip at strangers' ankles. Best to keep her contained or confined when someone new (such as repair man) comes over. Sarah enjoys going for walks and she gets along with other dogs, but not cats. Sarah is loving and loves to be held and to sit in your lap. She is crate trained. She is good little companion dog if guardian understands her and meets her needs. She was rescued from euthanasia at an area shelter after being turned in by her previous owner who couldn't keep her. Her estimated DOB is 3-20-10 and she weighs 12 pounds. Her coat is mostly white with tan patches on head and left side. Sarah has been diagnosed with Addison's Disease (hypoadrenocorticism) which requires a monthly injection. Addison's Disease is caused by a decreased hormone production from the adrenal glands and the hormones are important to regulate a variety of body functions. The long-term prognosis is good to excellent when given appropriate medication. Medication costs are $75 every $25 days for Percorten-V injection from vet or ordering a vial 25 mg/ml Rx for $212.26 (including shipping/handling) is much cheaper because it lasts many months. Instead of going to vet for injection, you would give her the injection every 25 days. The prednisolone 5 mg Rx is relatively inexpensive--15 tabs for $9 from vet lasts 120 days. Sarah has been spayed, vaccinated, dewormed and microchipped. $50 adoption fee, cash only, which is to help reimburse for a portion of expenses of dog rescue and rehabilitation. Adoption contract required. We are looking for adopters who are willing and able to care for this dog for its lifetime (several more years). Location: Quail Valley/Menifee, Southwest Riverside County. Local adoptions only; within 75 mile radius because we deliver animal to its new home to do a home/yard check. Please note: L.A. and Orange Counties are out of area because of traffic and difficult, time-consuming drive.) We prescreen potential adopters before setting up a meeting. If interested in this animal, please tell us a little info about you, your family, your other pets, your experience as a dog owner (which breed, etc.), where you live (which city, home or apt?), what type of home you would provide and what type of dog you are looking for--an inside dog, an outside dog or? Thank you. Our adoption process involves meeting the animal by appointment. We have the best interest of the animal in mind and our goal is to find a good, permanent home for each of our rescued animals. We have the right to decline an application if we feel it is not a good match or fit for the animal. If you like the animal and we both feel it is a good match, an application and adoption contract is completed. A convenient day/time is arranged for us to deliver the animal to its new home to do a home check (to make sure the home and yard are safe and secure). We will collect the adoption fee (cash only) when we deliver the animal to its new home. All our adoptions are on a trial basis because our goal is to have a successful adoption where the animal has a good permanent home and never ends up in a bad situation again. We ask that you give the animal a chance to adjust and settle in his new home and environment. Going to a new home with new people and a new environment is traumatic and stressful. It will take time for the animal to become comfortable around you and his/her new home. This should be a bonding period where you get to know the animal and connect with it, spend time with it and take things slow. He/she will need to get to know and trust you and learn the rules of the house and what is expected of him/her. This takes time, sometimes 2-3 weeks. During this time we will hold the adoption fee and if the adoption is not working out, we ask that you contact us and return the animal and we will refund your adoption fee.
