About Lucy

Hello There! My name is Lucy, and I'm a 'pied' (black and brown patches on white) 7-pound Rat Terrier/ Chihuahua mix gal who was born in December 2015. I have the Rat Terrier's telltale large, pointed ears, skinny face, and big eyes. Rat terriers were given their name by Teddy Roosevelt because our ancestor, who was Teddy's pet, rid the White House of a rat infestation! We're compact, tough, smoothly muscled exterminators who are constructed for the efficient movement required for a long day's work. And we love and need lots of exercise! Rat terriers are usually friendly, happy-go-lucky, playful, lovable, and portable companions who strongly bond with their owners. We're usually easily trainable compared to most terriers. But unfortunately my life has not always been a bowl of cherries, and the scars made me what first seemed to be an atypical Rat Terrier. I was abandoned by my owners at a high-kill shelter, and when I first came into rescue, I was very scared and, frankly, quite a mess because I didn't trust anyone even to touch me. However, my kind foster family has been lovingly working with me, and now my favorite thing is to be held like a baby! Quite a lot of progress, huh? I'm opening up to people now, and I love to play with the other dogs at doggie day care. I have my own obedience trainer who's also helping me to trust people again. Slowly, my life is taking a radical new direction, and I can't tell you how that delights me. So I'm looking for love in my new forever family, and hopefully they will be patient and shower me with the same TLC that I've responded to in my foster family. I hope you'll arrange to meet me so we can start writing new chapters in our lives together. Lucy is updated on shots, spayed, dewormed, and microchipped. She tested heartworm positive and is currently undergoing treatment, the cost of which Buster's Friends will assume. Her adoption fee is $200, cash or check payable to Buster's Friends.
