About Wowie

Do you need a cuddle buddy? Wowie loves a warm lap and might be your new best friend. Wowie is a small (9 lb) 8-9ish year old chihuahua/terrier mix who has been with us for about 6 years. Once he trusts someone, he is incredibly sweet and would be an affectionate companion to someone who wants a lap dog and does not have children in the home. Wowie's ideal day would be cuddling for hours or sleeping under a blanket, or in a patch of sunlight. He does not need to be active but walks well on a leash. He is house trained and has no medical issues that we know of, other than not so great teeth (he had a cleaning and a few extractions one year ago). He does great in cars and is mostly easygoing. Wowie was a stray when we found him and seems to have been treated poorly before. He tends to be afraid of new people and this anxiety can cause him to defensively nip at new people who invade his space too quickly. We have never had a problem when we tell guests to our home to let Wowie warm up to them in his own time rather than trying to force him to befriend them quickly. We're hoping to re-home him because we now have a crawling baby, and though we try to watch closely when they're near each other, our baby can grab at things quickly so I'm uneasy about our baby's safety and Wowie's peace of mind. Wowie has nipped her face when she surprised him. Wowie would do best with an owner who has empathy for dogs with a traumatic history. He should not live in a home with small children. He doesn't readily get along with other dogs or cats, but we used to have a larger dog and Wowie eventually became attached to him and they got along great.
