About Monty

Jack Russell mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Monty is 10 month's old, and believed to be a Jack Russell Terrier mix. He is 16 pounds, and fully grown. He is also a parapalegic due to a severe spine injury when he was barely 8 weeks old.... According to his previous family, Monty was found in a tote on the side of road at a few weeks old, and the family kept him. When Monty was almost three months old, the family sought help from a sister rescue. He had a fractured pelvis and other spinal injuries. Supposedly, this is how he was found. Fureverfoster and home offered to cover half of Monty's medical treatment and surgeries. Long story short, the family literally went M.I.A. After dropping Monty off at the vet, neither the rescue, nor the veterinarian's office, were able to reach the family again. After a month or so, our sister rescue reached out to us, and asked if we could take Monty on. How could we say no? Monty has been with us since September of 2018 and we are confident it is time to start the search for his happy FOREVER. His last set of x-rays has shown his pelvis has healed beautifully. He has some ability and leg movement, but struggles. Monty can walk with 4 legs but is limited. He is able to hold himself up but, again, limited. Monty mostly drags himself, is mostly incontinent, and struggles with nerve damage. He requires basic daily maintenance care, exercise, and physical therapy, (in house water therapy 3 to 5x a week). Monty continues to show improvement daily. He will continue to improve with time and therapy, but will never be 100% healed. Monty is a life-time commitment! Monty is dog (of all size) and cat friendly. No kids for Monty under 12 years old. He sleeps in a mini crib because his condition easily causes pressure sores. When he drags himself, one needs to be checking for any sores from said dragging. He is just another dog that needs special accommodations. I don't believe his care is time consuming, or special needs. He plays with all dogs, he wears indoor drag bags that were homemade for indoor use, and he has a set he wears outdoors that were donated. All his items will come with him, and we will pay for his wheel chair as well. He also wears a cone, as needed. His nerve damage can cause discomfort, and he chews on his bottom half. However, with daily exercise and therapy, that is rarely an issue. He wears a diaper as needed; he's mostly on a routine schedule to eliminate. Once one spends time with Monty, one easily picks up on all his signals and routine. Like the way his left leg twitches/shakes when he needs to poop or how he positions himself to pee; even his different barks for each need.
