About Truman (east)

Pit Bull mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

TRUMAN - A4154601 My name is TRUMAN. I am a neutered male, brown and white American Bulldog mix. The shelter staff think I am about 1 year and 1 month old, and I have been at the shelter since Oct 13, 2018. Notes from a volunteer who spent the day with Truman: 'Truman's kennel pull is as easy as the handler makes it. He knows to sit, gives you space, let's you leash him, then comes out and heads right to the exit. Once outside he does still jump around, but that's a work in progress. My suggestion is to stop, let him calm down before heading anywhere. When he's really excited and catches a glimpse of the leash, he'll want to play tug. If he does get the leash, he's not committed, so it's easy to get him to stop as long you're not pulling back creating the game. He has great interaction with people while in the play yard. If there are toys he'll want to play. Truman is still a puppy. His attention span is that of a puppy. He's going to need training. I can't tell if he's potty trained or not. He's very food motivated. He has learned to take treats gently. He sometimes appears grabby like he's going to get your hand, he doesn't bite down. As silly as Truman is, he's very in-tune with his human and listens to them. In his time at the shelter he has also learned how to walk on a leash, and to sit. He has conquered getting in a car, at first he was afraid. Taking a bath was a challenge, he was afraid of that too. Once you show him things aren't scary he'll do it. Exposure to life is really going to help him become a well balanced dog. I had no problems crating him at my house. I would highly suggest his adopters continuing in crate training him. I do think he would be destructive when left alone if he were to become board. He's a dog that you're going to want to make sure he understand the humans are in charge not him. He will not only appreciate it, because of his size and ability to be stubborn you don't want him thinking he's running things. Also, due to his size I would currently suggest no small kids. He wants to run, jump around and play like a puppy. Truman's kennel return is easy, and if the door is open, he runs right back in.'
