About Lily

Adoption Fee: $375.00
Siberian Husky / German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Gorgeous Lily simply leaves us breathless! This gorgeous, Alpha Diva Husky mix will make Northern breed lovers weak in the knees, but she needs seasoned Husky folks willing to focus on her ongoing training, and rein in her chutzpah. Lily came to us last year from a Florida rescue, who asked for our help in solving some behavior quirks that they thought stemmed from some physical abuse in her former home. Lily was slow to trust stangers and very hand shy. She recoiled to human touch and seemed skittish. Often we find that a Husky's beauty is his or her downfall. These stunning dogs attract a wide array of adopters ranging from extremely savvy, to those novices bewitched with his or her 'wolf-like' appearance. We believe wholeheartedly that a Husky, regardless of individual temperment, requires dog handling ability that is well above average. Time and time again, we have known Huskies who have foiled the best laid intentions of their novice adopters. At the age of four, Lily is a formidable presence. She is a Husky mix (possibly part German Shepherd), and weighs in at a very solid 60 pounds. She is tall and leggy, and extremely athletic. While Lily has a generally friendly demeanor and seems to enjoy the attentions of strangers, she also has a very well entrenched Alpha Diva vibe, and requires some serious handling chops and command presence in an adopter. Lily would be the ideal companion for very serious Husky folks, who are comfortable establishing rules and boundaries with Huskies, or other large breeds, so that Lily knows exactly where she stands. A loosey-goosey home structure will allow her to assert herself in ways that are not optimal for a human-canine living arrangement! The key to success with Lily is a sufficient amount of exercise, and ongoing obedience training to maintain leadership. She is a high-energy dog who needs a couple brisk leash walks each day and, preferably, an active outdoor lifestyle, with a Husky savvy single or couple. She would be the ideal running or walking companion, and would love to accompany her adopters on hiking or camping adventures. She loves the outdoors, and needs to be in a active home, in which she can be integrated into a lifestyle, not relegated to a backyard. Lily would be best-suited to an only dog environment, or perhaps with one other compatible male. While Lily can be bossy and demanding in the Dog Pack, we certainly wouldn't rule out the right dog chemistry, but we would have to test this carefully at adoption. She seems to have some buddies in her canine playgroup, but then also seems to bully some dogs of lesser stature. We don't think that she would be suitable for a home with cats or small children. Lily has decent house manners, that will continue to improve under her adopter's patient, knowledgeable leadership. She is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should expect an accident or two during her transition to a new home. Lily is in excellent health, and has been spayed, and is up to date on routine shots and has tested negative for heartworm and tick borne disease.
