About Bella

Please read entire description. Bella's adoption fee is $150. We are requiring a fenced yard and very few stairs in Bella's forever home. Please complete an application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. This very regal Great Dane / St. Bernard mix is about 4-5 years old and weighs 115 pounds currently. Bella did not have the best past and was fairly neglected with poor diet and flea infestation that led to some skin issues and ear infections when she came to us several months ago. She felt pretty crappy back then. Fortunately, she is all healed with no lasting effects and you would never know it! She is stunning. Bella is now very healthy, strong and happy. She is a wonderful girl who is 100% house trained and can be trusted to be left unattended with no issues. She also does fine in an XL crate, but its not really necessary. Bella coexists nicely with other dogs of all sizes and ages who are friendly. She will sometimes play chase, but she doesn't appreciate full contact, wrestle style play. She has a bit of a tendency to chase cats. She would do fine with older children. She had experience with young children and although not mean or aggressive, she was a bit pushy. For example, grandma would be holding a toddler, and Bella would push the child away with her big noggin to free up Grandma to pet her instead. Bella would also hover over the toys and one by one bring them to Grandma as if the kiddos shouldn't be playing with those things. We just see typical Dane / St. Bernard behaviors. Bella would do best in a fenced yard. She does fine with a harness and walking in the neighborhood, although she is a bit strong. Bella is protective of her home and will bark to alert you if someone arrives unexpectedly. She may also bark for a couple of minutes as new guests arrive. Otherwise, she is content to snooze on a large pet bed and is a fairly quiet companion. Bella would do best in a forever home with a minimal amount of steps or short flights of stairs. She does have some past issues from a leg surgery and gets a bit sore from time to time. She may need a bit of assistance boosting into a taller vehicle but has no trouble climbing into the backseat of a regular car. Due to these past issues, she would not make a 'support' dog. She should not be used to be leaned on and should not be used for weight bearing of any sort. In fact, we want to see her stay lean and trim to keep her joints going for as long as possible. Bella is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped.
