About Javi

Adoption Fee: $200
Border Collie / Australian Kelpie
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Javi is a very playful, dog-loving, 35-pound, one-year-old male, chocolate Border Collie/Kelpie-mix looking for a loving guardian. Javi was found abandoned in Chicago. He was skin and bones weighing close to 20 pounds. Sadly, scars on his face indicate that he had been tightly muzzled for most of his puppyhood. His flat feet and bowed legs show that he grew up in a small crate. Lucky for him, a fabulous dog-lover saw him and brought him to safety. That was back in September. Since then, he was taken in by the Friends of Petraits rescue where he found a loving foster mom, veterinary care and the nutrition that he lacked. He's energic, but has a super snugly side with his people. And, he is quite agile; he can quickly hop a four-foot fence if not supervised or if scared. Javi enjoys the company of people, as well as other dogs. As he's gained confidence he's learned that chasing cats is fun, so he's best in a home without felines. He's been going to doggy daycare and doing great with all his canine friends. He is housebroken, crate-trained, and walks nicely on leash, although he can be reactive to people and other dogs at times. He does bark at noises from inside the apartment so that may be something to consider if your building has thin walls. I think his ideal family would have a fenced in yard to run and play in with another dog friend. And, offer him the training he needs to succeed in life. He is super smart and catches on quickly. He would do best in an all-adult household until he gets the training he needs not to be mouthy and jump on people. Javi is now very healthy, neutered, up-to-date on rabies, distemper, bordatella and canine flu vaccines, micro-chipped, de-wormed, heartworm-tested and on monthly heartworm preventative. If you are interested in meeting and possibly adopting Javi, please contact [email protected] for an adoption application. His adoption fee of $200 benefits the rescued dogs of Friends of Petraits. He is being fostered in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood.
